A former Penn State quarterback is heading down to Oklahoma in hopes of one day running Lincoln Riley’s high-octane offense.

Former 3-star quarterback Micah Bowens announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he will be continuing his college football career at Oklahoma. The decision comes a few days after he entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

Bowens was a 3-star quarterback in Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class. He ranked as the No. 16 player at his position and was one of the Top 500 overall prospects for the cycle. Bowens is transferring after just one season with the Nittany Lions.

With both Sean Clifford and Will Levis both returning to Penn State next season, it was unlikely that Bowens would get a shot at the starting job for the Lions in 2021. But the move to play for the Sooners is interesting.

Spencer Rattler is still the starting quarterback at Oklahoma and Bowens likely won’t get his shot to run the offense for at least another year. But given Riley’s track record of developing quarterbacks, it may be the best move in the long run for Bowens.

Penn State closed out the 2020 season with a 4-5 record.
