Jim Ferry’s bank account is going to be a little bit lighter this week.

Tuesday, the Big Ten released a statement saying it has fined the Penn State head coach $10,000 and issued a public reprimand after Ferry violated the league’s Sportsmanship Policy. Ferry was hit with a technical foul in the 2nd half of Penn State’s road loss to Purdue over the weekend.

It’s unclear what Ferry’s actions were or what was said to warrant the technical foul and the fine from the B1G.

“The violation is a result of Coach Ferry’s postgame actions following the Penn State versus Purdue game on January, 17, 2021,” the conference said in a statement. “The fine and reprimand are a result of Conference Agreement 10.01 stating: The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship.”

After the game, Ferry commented on the technical foul, saying he thought calls were inconsistent during the game. He also didn’t feel his actions or words really warranted a technical foul.

“I was just fighting for our guys. I though that some of the calls were a little uneven or inconsistent, whatever you want to call it,” Ferry said. “I’ve been coaching for a long time. I wasn’t ranting or raving. I wasn’t cursing. I thought there was a little sensitivity to that.”

Purdue defeated Penn State 80-72. The Nittany Lions dropped to 3-5 on the season and 0-4 in B1G play.
