Minnesota received some tough news on Sunday afternoon as 4-star cornerback Avante Dickerson announced his de-commitment from the Gophers.

Here’s the announcement:

Dickerson had been committed to Minnesota since April of 2020, but declined to sign an NLI during the Early Signing Period in December. Clearly that was the right move for him, as he’s now in a position to pick his next school on National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Dickerson is the No. 8 cornerback and the No. 121 overall player in the 2021 class.

It’s unclear where Dickerson will go at this point, although it’s possible he ends up at another Big Ten school. He’s from Omaha, Nebraska and attends Westside High School.

Dickerson also has offers from Oregon, Penn State, Arkansas, Iowa, Michigan and Georgia, amongst others.

If there’s a bright side for Minnesota, its that PJ Fleck still managed to sign a very strong class. The Gophers have the No. 35 class in the country per 247Sports Composite rankings, and the No. 8 class in the Big Ten.

National Signing Day is on Feb. 3.
