McNair, 19, died after the medical staff at Maryland failed to properly treat him after suffering heatstroke during an organized team workout during the summer.

The University of Maryland will also cover the settlement costs and it will settle all claims made by McNair’s parents, as well as McNair’s estate.

After McNair’s death, the University of Maryland launched an investigation into the program and claims that DJ Durkin created a “toxic” environment within the football program. Durkin was placed on leave during the investigation and was eventually fired after two seasons as the head coach.
