Former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger gave high praise to NFL legend Drew Brees on Friday afternoon.

Ehlinger called Brees the “perfect role model” in an interview with the NFL Network at the Senior Bowl.

In addition to having similar size and stature, Ehlinger and Brees both attended Westlake High School in Texas.

“Growing up having Drew Brees as a model, as a man and a player, is one of the best players and people you can look up to when you’re at a young age watching a football player,” Ehlinger said, via 247Sports. “I never really had a professional team but I was always into the players. So when I knew that Drew Brees went to the same high school that I was going to go to, being able to watch him every Sunday play for the Saints, just the way he carries himself as a person and a player, it was the perfect role model to look up to.”

Ehlinger is coming off a memorable career at Texas. He was a four year starter and was efficient as a passer and a runner. He threw for 11,436 yards and 94 touchdowns while completing 62.5 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 1,903 yards and 33 touchdowns during his Texas career.

Ehlinger isn’t viewed as one of the top quarterbacks in this class, but it’s likely he’ll be picked at some point on Day 3.

The Senior Bowl is on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
