Former Michigan RB Zach Charbonnet announces transfer destination

Former Michigan running back Zach Charbonnet is heading to UCLA.

Michigan’s program has dealt with a lot of turnover this offseason both with players and the coaching staff, but Charbonnet is a notable departure. He rushed for just 124 yards this season after a breakout freshman campaign that included 726 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He had a season-high 70 yards in Michigan’s Week 1 victory over Minnesota, but received only 15 carries the entire rest of the season. His 124 rushing yards was good enough for No. 2 on the team in rushing behind Hassan Haskins.
Charbonnet was a 4-star running back in the class of 2019, according to 247Sports Composite ratings. The same service had him as the No. 4 overall running back and the No. 46 overall player.
He hails from Westlake Village, Calif., so transferring closer to home at UCLA makes a lot of sense.
Michigan should be OK in the running back room in 2021. Haskins is expected back, and the Wolverines also added bluechip running back Donovan Edwards in their 2021 recruiting class.
