According to Jeremy Werner at 247Sports, this is the first time an NFL player has received an invite since 2017. The last Illinois player to be drafted was Nick Allegretti by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019.
This is in line with what Green accomplished during his career with the Illini. He was named a second team All American by USA Today and was the first Illinois offensive player to earn that honor since fullback Jay Prosch in 2011.
Green was all consensus first team All Big Ten for his efforts in 2020. He started all eight games for the Illini, including three at center after Doug Kramer was injured. He ended his collegiate career with 33 consecutive starts.
It’s worth noting the NFL combine will be different this season due to the pandemic. There will not be a traditional gathering in Indianapolis, so teams will have to rely on scouting individual workouts at pro days. Most of the combine will be held virtually.
The NFL draft is set for April 29-May 1.
