The rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State never stops. Even on the recruiting trail, the two programs are always trying to outdo the other. This time, the Wolverines got the best of the Spartans.

On National Signing Day, Michigan was able to flip 4-star defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny, who had previously been committed to Michigan State. Benny is a native of Oak Park, Mich., and had a change of heart after pledging to the Spartans in early November of 2020.

Benny’s commitment to Michigan State came shortly after the Spartans defeated the Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Now, nearly three months later, the defensive tackle believes Michigan will be the best opportunity.

Benny’s pledge came on Twitter on Wednesday morning:

Per 247Sports, Benny ranks as one of the Top 200 overall players in the 2021 recruiting class, listed at No. 195 overall. He also ranks as the No. 16 defensive tackle in the class and the No. 6 player from Michigan.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound lineman held offers from nearly 40 programs. He picks Michigan over other offers from Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and Texas A&M among many others.

With Benny’s commitment, Michigan jumps into the Top 10 in the national recruiting rankings (at least temporarily). The Wolverines are No. 10 nationally and No. 2 in the B1G.

Michigan State drops to No. 49 and No. 10 in the B1G.
