Despite heavy pushes from Nebraska and Minnesota, 4-star defensive back Avante Dickerson won’t be playing college football in the B1G. Instead, he’s heading to the Pac-12.
Wednesday, Dickerson announced that he’s committing to Oregon. The Omaha, Nebraska native is ranked as the No. 122 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class and is listed as the No. 8 cornerback of the cycle. He’s the top prospect from Nebraska.
Back in April 2020, Dickerson gave his verbal commitment to Minnesota and had kept his pledge to the Golden Gophers until late January. After decommitting, Nebraska and Oregon were expected to be contenders to land the highly-recruited defensive back, while Minnesota was still a contender.
This past season at the high school level, Dickerson totaled 19 tackles, 9 pass break-ups, 4 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and a tackle for loss on defense. Offensively, the 4-star athlete racked up 583 receiving yards, 303 rushing yards and accounted for 11 touchdowns.
Dickerson is a versatile athlete who could’ve made an immediate impact at both Nebraska or Minnesota. Instead, he’ll attempt to do the same at Oregon.
