Here’s what Michigan’s assistant coaches will make in 2021

The new contracts are in for Michigan’s assistant coaches, revealing how much Jim Harbaugh’s staff will make during the 2021 season.
New defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald will be the team’s highest-paid assistant coach, making $1 million in his first season with the program. He replaces former DC Don Brown. Offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, who will be entering his third season in Ann Arbor, is next at $900,000.
In total, Michigan will spend $5.4 million on assistant coaches in 2021. Here’s a look at how that breaks down for each coach on the Wolverines staff. Zach Shaw of 247Sports had a breakdown:
- Mike Macdonald, defensive coordinator: $1 million
- Josh Gattis, offensive coordinator: $900,000
- Mo Linguist, defensive backs, co-defensive coordinator: $680,000
- Sherrone Moore, offensive line, co-offensive coordinator: $550,000
- Brian Jean-Mary, linebackers: $450,000
- Jay Harbaugh, tight ends, special teams coordinator: $415,000
- Mike Hart, running backs: $415,000
- Shaun Nua, defensive line: $415,000
- George Helow, safeties: $350,000
- Ron Bellamy, wide receivers: $225,000
This offseason, Michigan extended Harbaugh’s contract by four years, providing some security for the seventh-year head coach. But Harbaugh made some major changes to his staff in an attempt to get the Wolverines over the hump.
Michigan is coming off a 2-4 campaign in 2020, the only losing season in the Harbaugh era.
