Another week of Big Ten basketball is in the books.
Here’s where every Big Ten team stands in Ken Pomery’s rankings with a little more than five weeks remaining before Selection Sunday on March 14:
- No. 3 Michigan
- No. 4 Iowa
- No. 5 Illinois
- No. 8 Ohio State
- No. 11 Wisconsin
- No. 23 Purdue
- No. 25 Rutgers
- No. 27 Indiana
- No. 35 Penn State
- No. 41 Minnesota
- No. 43 Maryland
- No. 62 Michigan State
- No. 74 Northwestern
- No. 123 Nebraska
That’s seven teams in the top-25 for the Big Ten, which is one more than they had two weeks ago.
Rutgers has seen the biggest improvement over the last couple weeks. The Scarlet Knights were at No. 41 two weeks ago and now sit in the top-25 thanks to four straight wins vs. Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan State and Indiana.
An astounding 13 teams are still alive for an NCAA Tournament berth, with Nebraska being the lone program that’s completely out of the running. The Huskers are 4-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play this season.
According to these rankings, 11 of 14 teams are currently on track to win an at-large bid. Michigan State and Northwestern will have to end the season on a hot streak to earn serious consideration.
Similarly, Penn State, Minnesota and Maryland will have to avoid any disastrous losses and would be smart to pickup a signature win down the stretch. Despite a comfortable No. 27 ranking, Indiana is just 4-6 in Big Ten play and will likely be on the bubble on Selection Sunday without a substantial improvement.
The Big Ten’s season continues tonight at 7 p.m. ET as Penn State hosts Maryland.
