Report: Kansas City Chiefs RBs coach, former Indiana assistant could rejoin Hoosiers staff

Indiana may have located its next running backs coach. It would be a familiar face in Bloomington.
FootballScoop.com is reporting that Kansas City Chiefs running backs coach Deland McCullough is a strong candidate to leave the NFL to join Tom Allen’s Indiana staff. McCullough does have a connection with the program, serving as the Hoosiers’ running backs coach from 2011-16 under then-head coach Kevin Wilson.
McCullough and Allen worked on the same IU staff in 2016, when Allen was the program’s defensive coordinator.
Allen is looking to replace former running backs coach Mike Hart, who left Bloomington for the same position at Michigan, his alma Mater. Hart had been with the Hoosiers from 2017-20, coaching stars like Stevie Scott III, Sampson James and Tim Baldwin Jr.
McCullough started his college coaching career in 2010, when he was an intern at Miami (OH) before being hired as Indiana’s running backs coach in 2011. After six seasons on Wilson’s staff, McCullough was the the running backs coach at USC before making the leap to the NFL.
He has spent the last three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Indiana is coming off one of the best years in program history, finishing with a 6-1 record in the regular season with its only loss coming to Ohio State. The Hoosiers ended long losing streaks to Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin.
