After stepping away from the NFL for a year, former Rutgers offensive lineman Anthony Davis thought he’d give football another shot. That choice to rejoin the league was short-lived as the 49ers offensive tackle announced he would retire again on Monday.
In June 2015, Davis retired due to health concerns from a concussion he suffered. According to reports, it was another concussion earlier this year that played a role in his decision to hang up the shoulder pads.
Davis, 26, played at Rutgers from 2007-2009 where he earned honors as a Freshman All-American, an All-Big East selection and a second team All-American. He was taken as the 11th overall pick in the 2010 draft, the highest selected Scarlet Knight in program history.
He played in 72 games with the San Francisco 49ers.
