Iowa wins second straight game with 30-point blowout over Michigan State

Iowa hit a rough patch in February, but things appear to be back on track.
The Hawkeyes defeated Michigan State 88-58 on Saturday afternoon in a game that was never close. Michigan State’s last lead of the game came with 17:43 left in the first half.
National Player of the Year candidate Luka Garza scored eight points, but his teammates picked up the slack. Garza played just 23 minutes in this contest.
Joe Wieskamp was Iowa’s best offensive player, scoring a game-high 21 points on 13 shots. He made 5-of-7 3-point attempts. Jack Nunge was also outstanding, scoring 18 points and adding 11 rebounds and six assists off the bench.
As a team, Iowa shot 52 percent from 3-point land and 49 percent overall. They also dominated defensively, holding the Spartans to under 36 percent in both those categories.
Iowa has now won two straight games after going through a stretch where it lost four of five games. The Hawkeyes were once in contention for a 1-seed, but now are just trying to hold on to a top-4 seed.
The Spartans are having a down year and are currently outside the discussion for the NCAA Tournament. They haven’t looked like the same team since undergoing a 20-day layoff due to COVID-19 in January.
Iowa’s next game is on Thursday vs. Wisconsin.
