Some of the best venues in college basketball call the B1G home. The combination of tradition and history paired with passion and hostility creates some really exciting environments every winter in the Midwest.
Plenty of the arenas in the B1G can make an argument for being the best. Recently, college basketball expert and Big Ten Network contributor Andy Katz ranked the five best arenas in the conference.
Obviously, Katz ranked the venues based on the “normal” atmospheres, and not based on what we’re seeing during COVID-19 times. Still, it’s a list that stirred up plenty of controversy. Here’s Katz’s Top 5:
- Mackey Arena — Purdue
- Assembly Hall — Indiana
- Williams Arena “The Barn” — Minnesota
- Rutgers Athletic Center “The RAC” — Rutgers
- Breslin Center — Michigan State

That’s an interesting list, and you might understand why there are some arguing against Katz’s list — especially fans from Illinois and Maryland who believe their arenas belong in the Top 5.
Which five B1G arenas would make up your Top 5?
