The NCAA has officially extended the recruiting dead period through May 31, meaning recruits are still unable to take visits to campuses.

Last week, the NCAA Football Oversight Committee recommended this measure. This decision impacts recruiting in all NCAA sports.

“In addition, the council committed to providing clarity regarding permissible recruiting activities beginning June 1 as soon as possible, and not later than their April 14-15 meet,” the NCAA’s statement said.

The current dead period has been ongoing since March 13, 2020 due to the pandemic. Prior to this extension, it was scheduled to be lifted on April 15.

During a dead period, coaches are not able to have face-to-face contact with recruits or their parents. Coaches are also not able to visit the recruits’ high school.

This decision was first reported by The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach.

As of now, this dead period will be able to be lifted on June 1. The council is expected to make a decision on that no later than its next meeting, April 14-15.

The Early Signing Period for the 2022 recruiting class is scheduled for December.
