ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has provided an update to his Bracketology projection heading into the weekend.
With just over three weeks remaining before Selection Sunday, Lunardi has 10 Big Ten teams making the Big Dance. Here’s the seeding projections:
- Ohio State, No. 1 seed
- Michigan, No. 1 seed
- Illinois, No. 2 seed
- Iowa, No. 2 seed
- Wisconsin, No. 5 seed
- Purdue, No. 6 seed
- Rutgers, No. 7 seed
- Indiana, No. 10 seed
- Maryland, No. 11 seed
- Minnesota, No. 12 seed
The Hoosiers, Terps and Gophers are firmly on the bubble as we enter the home stretch of the regular season. Although they aren’t listed, there’s a path for the Michigan State Spartans to get to the NCAA Tournament as well. Northwestern, Penn State and Nebraska are likely out of contention.
It will also be interesting to monitor the race for No. 1 seed(s). Ohio State, Michigan and Illinois are all firmly in the mix, with Iowa not far behind. The Buckeyes and Wolverines play on Sunday. Michigan hosts the Illini on March 2 and Ohio State faces Illinois in the Big Ten regular season finale on March 7.
There’s also the Big Ten Tournament, which is set to begin on March 10. It’s likely that two of those three teams would match up again at least once in the conference tournament.
Selection Sunday is on March 14.
