Oklahoma wide receiver and holder Spencer Jones is recovering from surgery after nearly losing his eye in a fight that occurred in the bathroom of a bar in Norman. The OU Daily reported on the situation this week.

Per the report, Jones was involved in a fight in the bathroom at Norman’s Logies on the Corner. The incident stemmed from a verbal argument and Jones was assaulted. He was struck several times in the face, slammed into the floor and was placed into a chokehold.

Video of the altercation was on social media on Friday, Feb. 19, though the report indicates that the fight actually occurred a week earlier on Saturday, Feb. 13:

Jones sought medical attention from Oklahoma’s athletic trainers, but underwent surgery on Tuesday, Feb. 16 after swelling receded around the eye. The surgery took four hours and required the surgeon to rebuild the left orbital socket.

The Jones family retained Woodrow Glass of Ward and Glass L.L.P as legal representation. Glass told the OU Daily that the doctor performing the surgery said Jones was “extraordinarily luck at this point, that he’s lucky he didn’t lose the eye altogether.”

Jones is expected to fully recover, though it will take “a while.”

Jones is a redshirt senior for the Sooners. He transferred to the program after spending two years as a walk-on at Liberty. Jones appeared in 11 games at OU, mostly on special teams as a place holder.
