A member of Minnesota’s 2020 recruiting class has decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal after one season with the program.

Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press reported on Tuesday that freshman defensive lineman Ali Saad is exploring his options outside of the Twin Cities after hitting the transfer portal. He spent just one year with the Golden Gophers and did not play during the 2020 season.

Saad was a 3-star prospect in the 2020 cycle and is a native of Dearborn, Mich. He was ranked as the No. 87 defensive tackle of the class and the No. 30 player from his home state. Per 247Sports, Saad received nearly 30 offers on the recruiting trail, including multiple B1G offers.

Minnesota won the commitment of the 3-star DT over Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern and Rutgers out of the B1G. Other programs to offer included Missouri, Kansas, Iowa State and Boston College, in addition to several Group of 5 programs.

The Gophers closed the 2020 season with a 3-4 record.
