Gene Smith confirms Oregon’s visit to Ohio State is a go for 2021

Ohio State fans received a bit of good news recently with Buckeyes AD Gene Smith confirming the marquee matchup against Oregon is a go for 2021.
According to Nathan Baird with Cleveland.com, Smith confirmed the news on Wednesday that the game between Ohio State and Oregon for Sept. 11 in Columbus is good to go. The Buckeyes and Ducks were scheduled to play in Eugene, Oregon in 2020 before the pandemic struck.
With everything that goes into setting schedules and the challenges that come with making a change, Smith said both he and Oregon AD Rob Mullens are on board with keeping the game as originally scheduled:
“Neither of us want to change the game,” Smith said. “It will cost us more to change the game. If we don’t play, we’ve got to buy somebody else in, so you’re paying whatever we’ll have to pay. And that game probably won’t be as attractive as us playing each other.”
While the two sides will play in Columbus this season, they continue to work to find a date suitable for a matchup in Eugene to complete the home-and-home. Smith is hopeful to have a better idea of a date for that future game sometime in March.
