In just a few months, Reece Udinski will be heading to College Park to suit up for Maryland and finish out his college football career. But before he’s a Terrapin, the quarterback has decided to play the spring season at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
The Keydets are pretty pleased he stuck around based on his performance Saturday.
Udinski completed 27-of-38 passes for 248 yards and threw 2 touchdown passes in VMI’s 14-13 victory over Furman on Saturday. The Keydets open the year with a 1-0 record and handed the Paladins their first loss of the year.
Saturday’s game was a defensive bout, but VMI overcame a 13-7 halftime deficit to get the win. With 17 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter, Udinski found Chance Knox for a 19-yard touchdown pass for the winning score.
Udinski’s other touchdown strike was an 11-yard toss to Michael Jackson.
Before the FCS season began, Udinski announced his intention to transfer to Maryland to complete his college career. Prior to the start of the 2021 spring season, the quarterback had played in 31 games for the Keydets, throwing for 6,790 yards and 41 touchdown tosses with 25 interceptions.
VMI has seven total games on the schedule with six remaining after the win over Furman. The Keydets are in action again on Saturday, taking on Western Carolina.
