One of Youngstown State’s assistant coaches is no longer permitted to stand on the sidelines after an incident over the weekend. The school announced the punishment on Monday.

Tim Johnson, who is the program’s director of player personnel will not be allowed to be on the sidelines for the remainder of the FCS spring season after lowering his shoulder into an opposing player during Youngstown State’s game against Northern Iowa on Saturday.

Both Youngstown State and the Missouri Valley Conference are handing down the punishment to Johnson.

“I apologize to UNI, Youngstown State, the Missouri Valley Football Conference and our community for what occurred on Saturday,” Johnson said in a statement. “As a member of the YSU Football staff, my actions are held in high regard and that should have never occurred. Again, I deeply apologize to all who have been impacted by my actions.”

Youngstown lost the game to Northern Iowa 21-0, falling to 0-2 on the season. The Penguins are back in action on Saturday, hosting Southern Illinois.
