Thursday night was a banner night for Michigan as Juwan Howard’s Wolverines steamrolled rival Michigan State, 69-50.
Franz Wagner led Michigan with 19 points while freshman Hunter Dickinson added another double-double to his tally. Michigan also held the Spartans to a 36.4% shooting night as Michigan State went 0-for-9 from deep.
The win was the second straight in the rivalry series for Howard and the Wolverines, but it was important for another reason. It handed Michigan the regular season B1G title in Howard’s second season on the job.
The win especially caught the eye of Chris Webber, one of Michigan’s all-time great talents and former “Fab Five” teammate of Howard. Webber took to Instagram with a congratulatory message and image for the Wolverines.
“Congrats to these young men that fought hard all season. Congrats to the old man that lead them,” read Webber’s message. “GO BLUE! Damnit Go BLUE!”

The win was a great one for Michigan, but the Wolverines still have a shot at a season sweep of the Spartans when the two sides face off Sunday in East Lansing. A win would give Michigan its best winning streak in the rivalry series since winning three straight from Feb. 2017 to March 2018.
