Fran McCaffery provides injury update on Iowa star Joe Wieskamp
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery gave an optimistic update on Iowa’s Joe Wieskamp after defeating Wisconsin on Sunday.
Wieskamp left the game in the first half with an apparent foot injury and did not return. He later appeared on the bench with a boot on his right foot.
However, McCaffery indicated that the injury wasn’t serious.
Fran McCaffery said he wouldn't rush Joe Wieskamp back. Wieskamp had a walking boot over his right lower leg/ankle after an injury with 8:16 left in the first half.
That's good news for Iowa that it's likely "just" a sprain.

Wieskamp has been Iowa’s most important player this season outside of star big man Luka Garza. He’s averaging 15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest while sporting a true shooting percentage of 62.7 percent. He’s shooting north of 48 percent from 3-point range on the year.
Wieskamp was sensational in this game while he was able to stay on the floor. He scored 12 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting in just 12 minutes of action.
With the win, Iowa clinched the No. 3 seed in next week’s Big Ten Tournament. The Hawkeyes are in position to earn at least a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Selection Sunday is on March 14.
