The deal includes $66 million in signing bonus money, which breaks a record that was previously held by former Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson. Wilson’s current deal with the Seattle Seahawks included a $65 million signing bonus.
Highest signing bonus in NFL history:
Dak Prescott $66M
Russell Wilson $65M
Aaron Rodgers $57.5M
Matthew Stafford $50M
Matt Ryan $46.5M
Joe Flacco $40M
Aaron Donald $40M— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 9, 2021
Prescott’s new contract includes $126 million in guaranteed money — essentially the first three years of the deal. That is also a record for the most guaranteed money in NFL history.
He will now earn $40M annually, which is second in the NFL only to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Wilson is now fourth in the NFL at $35 million per season.
Prescott was an MVP candidate before suffering a gruesome leg injury in the Cowboys’ fifth game of the season in 2020. He was on pace to throw for nearly 6,000 yards before the injury.
