Taking care of business: Illinois thrashes Rutgers in B1G Tournament quarterfinal

Illinois dominated Rutgers 90-68 en route to Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal victory on Friday night.

The Illini jumped out to a 9-0 run to start the game, and eventually led by 19 points at the break. The outcome was never in doubt in the second half.

Ayo Dosunmu was locked in from the start. He finished with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He also contributed five rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Illinois center Kofi Cockburn was also excellent. He poured in 18 points while grabbing 12 boards in just 27 minutes.

As a team, Illinois shot 52.5 percent from the field. The Illini also got plenty of points from the free throw line, going 21-of-31 at the charity stripe.

The most staggering difference between these teams came on the boards. Illinois out-rebounded the Scarlet Knights by a total of 44-19. Dosunmu, Cockburn and Adam Miller had 22 rebounds by themselves.

Illinois moves on to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament. It will face the winner of Iowa-Wisconsin game.

Rutgers will now await its NCAA Tournament fate with the rest of the country on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights are currently projected to be a 9-seed, according to BracketMatrix.com.
