ESPN’s Joe Lunardi is projecting Illinois and Michigan to be amongst the No. 1 seeds regardless of what happens in the Big Ten Tournament championship on Sunday.
Illinois defeated Iowa to move on to the final round on Saturday, while Michigan dropped its semifinal to Ohio State.
According to Lunardi, that puts Illinois as the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament with Michigan at No. 4. And even if the Buckeyes prevail over the Illini on Sunday, the No. 1 seeds are locked.
Here’s Lunardi’s latest update where he explains the situation:

Lunardi currently has Ohio State as the No. 7 overall team, behind all four No. 1 seeds as well as Alabama and Iowa.
The Buckeyes likely lost their chance at a No. 1 seed when they ended the regular season on a four-game losing streak. They dropped games to Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa and Ohio State down the stretch.
However, Chris Holtmann’s squad has obviously recovered nicely to make the Big Ten Tournament final. The Buckeyes are likely to be a No. 2 seed regardless of what happens tomorrow.
Tip-off is at 3:30 p.m. ET.
