Michigan legend Glen Rice picks Wolverines over Gonzaga, other favorites in NCAA Tournament

While some are doubting the Wolverines, Glen Rice is doubling down.
Rice’s status as a Michigan basketball legend should make that unsurprising. But with Isaiah Livers sidelined and a tough region in the NCAA Tournament, there’s not much optimism about this program outside of Ann Arbor.
However, Rice went on Kansas City sports radio’s 810-WHB on Wednesday afternoon to explain why he believes Michigan will cut the nets at the end of the tournament.
“It would be against my nature to say I don’t have them going all the way,” Rice said. “I think we have a better chance than anyone. I mean, we understand that everyone’s talking about Gonzaga being the team that people are picking to win it. They’re a complete team but at the same time, I think that because Michigan is a team that throws so many things at you and is so disciplined on the defensive end that they’ll be competitive and perhaps win this National Championship.”
Gonzaga is entering the tournament as the overwhelming favorite following an undefeated regular season. Gonzaga doesn’t play in a power conference, but Mark Few’s team secured non-conference wins over Kansas, West Virginia, Auburn, Iowa and Virginia.
Michigan finished the year 20-4 and won the Big Ten regular season title.
It’s possible Michigan and Gonzaga could meet in the Final Four.
The Wolverines’ first game of the NCAA Tournament will be against either Texas Southern or Mt. St. Mary’s on Saturday.
