Fans at spring games? Nebraska AD Bill Moos says it will be up to B1G Presidents, Chancellors

While B1G teams and athletic directors may be hopeful to have fan attendance at spring games, Nebraska AD Bill Moos recently indicated that the final decision for attendance will rest with the Presidents and Chancellors of the B1G.

The 2020 season was a rough and challenging one during the ongoing pandemic. The B1G ultimately decided to move forward without fan attendance, creating some eery scenes throughout the fall.

Now, optimism for the return of fans in 2021 is growing and appearing to get better. Penn State AD Sandy Barbour recently indicated the Nittany Lions will plan for full capacity in the fall and adjust as needed.

For many fans, a chance to attend the Spring Game for their favorite team would be a welcome opportunity after not seeing a game in person last fall. And while Moos and other ADs sound open to fans, he said that decision will not be up to him or Nebraska alone.

“There’s a lot of support for it among the ADs,” Moos said Wednesday, according to Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald. “I think that’s promising. At the end of the day, it’ll be decided by the presidents and chancellors. Allowing attendance at NCAA championships and the Big Ten’s approval of allowing fans at championships on local campuses, that’s a real positive sign.”

Along with that information, Moos also indicated he would prefer to listen to and follow the guidance of local health officials as opposed to a blanket rule across the B1G. He is hoping for a final decision on fan attendance in the spring over the next few weeks.

Hopefully, fans will be allowed in the spring and even more so in the fall as teams and universities try to return to normal.
