Upset alert? Maryland secures halftime lead over UConn in first round matchup

Maryland has a healthy 33-22 lead over UConn in their first round matchup of the NCAA Tournament.
This game was even for most of the opening 20 minutes, but the Terps used a 15-3 run late in the first half to secure the lead going into the break.
Guard Eric Ayala was Maryland’s best player in the first half. He scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. He made both of his 3-point attempts.
As a team, Maryland shot 52.2 percent from the floor and 75 percent (6-of-8) from the 3-point line.
Defensively, the Terps dominated UConn. The Huskies managed to shoot just 23.1 percent from the floor during the first half. Potential lottery pick James Bouknight scored only seven points on 11 shots.
That shooting disparity helped Maryland make up for a major difference on the boards. UConn grabbed an astonishing 18 offensive rebounds in the first half, but only converted those into nine second-chance points.
Overall, UConn won the rebounding battle 28-15.
