Here’s what Greg Gard said after Wisconsin’s loss to Baylor in NCAA Tournament
Wisconsin coach Greg Gard was understandably disappointed following the Badgers’ 76-63 loss to Baylor on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead and eventually held a double-digit advantage at the half.
Gard addressed his team’s slow start and the impact that it had throughout the rest of the game.
“We got a little speed up early, tried to play too fast at times,” Gard said. “That definitely played a factor.”
Gard also answered questions with an eye on the future — and what’s likely to be a much younger squad for the 2021-22 season.
“The older guys have done a really good job of putting the culture in the right spot and guiding the younger guys,” Gard said. “There’s going to be a lot of work they have to do in the offseason.”
However, there’s a chance Wisconsin could bring back pieces from this senior class. Because of the pandemic, the NCAA has granted an extra year of eligibility for all current players.
Gard said he wasn’t sure what Wisconsin’s seniors will decide.
Greg Gard says he doesn't know if any of the seniors are planning to return for another season. Will give them some time to think about. #Badgers

Wisconsin finishes the year with an 18-13 record. Gard’s record at Wisconsin is now 119-70 in six seasons at the helm.
Here are a couple other notes from Wisconsin’s press conference:
Greg Gard: Proud of our guys for how we battled back in the second half … Really thanked them for everything they have done for us this year.

Greg Gard: I've never been around a group that has had to endure more over the last two-plus years. Going back to Coach Moore and that tragedy they still carry with them … I thanked them for all they've done for this program going beyond basketball.

D'Mitrik Trice said the locker room was emotional with a lot of tears being shed but "we're going to hold our heads high. A lot of people doubted us the whole entire season."
