Former Minnesota linebacker Itayvion “Tank” Brown won’t be leaving the B1G.

On Tuesday, the freshman linebacker and 4-star member of Minnesota’s 2020 class announced his decision to transfer to Michigan State. Brown was ranked as the No. 311 overall prospect of his cycle and was the Gophers’ second-highest ranked prospect. He left after just one season in the Twin Cities.

Brown made his announcement official with a post on social media. With the NCAA granting an additional year of eligibility to fall student-athletes, the linebacker will still be considered a freshman in 2021.

Brown, a native of St. Louis, entered his name into the transfer portal in early March.

“Thank you to the University of Minnesota, Coach Fleck and the entire coaching staff,” Brown wrote on Twitter. “I’m grateful for the opportunity that I was given, but with that being said I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”

Brown did not play for the Gophers during the 2020 season. Minnesota finished with a 3-4 record.

Michigan State ended the season with a 2-5 record. The addition of Brown is a great pick-up for head coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans, looking to add depth to the linebacker position for the 2021 season.

The Spartans started spring practice on Tuesday.
