Report: Mark Turgeon might be looking for way out of Maryland

Mark Turgeon has been the head coach at Maryland for a decade now, but a recent report suggests he might be looking for a way out of College Park.
Jason “Lurch” Bishop cited a source during Tuesday’s The Sports Junkies on 106.7FM The Fan in Washington D.C., that Turgeon might be looking for an exit plan from Maryland. However, he’d be looking to land a major job somewhere in the Midwest if he leaves the Terrapins.
“Someone close to the program said (Turgeon) has been looking for power-five jobs back in the Midwest,” Bishop said. “That he is looking to get back home. He’s from Topeka, Kansas. He was sniffing around the Wichita State job after they let go of Marshall, but Wichita State hired the assistant for a five-year deal. That’s just a rumor. All rumors. But the guy told me Turge might be fed up with the pace of DC, get back home, slow it down a little bit.”
Turgeon, who took over at Maryland in 2011, led the Terrapins to a 17-14 record this season and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In his 10 seasons, the Terps are 221-113 with a 105-79 record in the B1G. Maryland has won one B1G title and has reached March Madness five times in seven seasons.
Maryland would’ve undoubtedly been in during the 2019-20 season had the tournament not been canceled.
Over the course of his coaching career, Turgeon has had stops at Jacksonville State (1998-2000), Wichita State (2000-07) and Texas A&M (2007-11). His teams have appeared in 10 NCAA Tournaments and four NITs.
