Purdue baseball storms back with 9th-inning rally, stuns Rutgers with walk-off bomb

For Purdue baseball, it was better late than never Saturday evening!
The start to the 2021 season has not been kind to the Boilermakers, and they entered the game against Rutgers with just two wins in their first 12 games. That included a Friday loss to the Scarlet Knights.
For much of the afternoon, it appeared that Purdue was in store for more heartache. Rutgers entered the bottom of the ninth holding a 4-0 lead and looking to make it back-to-back wins in West Lafayette.
Then, Purdue’s bats woke up. The Boilermakers stormed back to tie it up at 4-all before Mason Gavre put an exclamation point on the comeback.
Gavre launched a walk-off three-run bomb to give Purdue the improbable comeback victory, 7-4:

With the win, Purdue moves to 3-10 on the season with the weekend series with the Scarlet Knights tied at one win apiece. The weekend finale is set for Sunday afternoon.
