Former Penn State forward Trent Buttrick will finish his college basketball career in the Atlantic 10 conference.

According to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Buttrick has committed to UMass after entering his name in the NCAA transfer portal. He began looking for new opportunities outside of State College following the 2020-21 season at Penn State.

Buttrick was a member of Penn State’s 2017 recruiting class and has spent the last four seasons with the Nittany Lions. He’s played in 79 career games and made four starts.

Buttrick had his best season statistically during the 2020-21 season. He averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while appearing in 25 games and making two starts.

After Penn State announced that it would not retain interim head coach Jim Ferry and hired former Purdue assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry, multiple players entered their names into the transfer portal.

Buttrick will be using his final season of eligibility outside of Penn State, it appears.
