Report: Former Purdue assistant rejoining Matt Painter’s staff

A former Purdue assistant is reportedly making his return to West Lafayette.
Paul Lusk is rejoining Matt Painter’s staff at Purdue, according to a report from Stadium’s Jeff Goodman. Lusk was a member of the Boilermakers’ coaching staff from 2004-11 before taking a head coaching job at Missouri State.
Creighton assistant Paul Lusk is returning to become an assistant for Matt Painter at Purdue, source told @Stadium. Lusk was an assistant at Purdue prior to becoming head coach at Missouri State from 2011-18.

Lusk has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Creighton on Greg McDermott’s staff. The vacancy became available on the Purdue staff after assistants Micah Shrewsberry (Penn State) and Steve Lutz (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) took head coaching jobs.
Lusk was the head coach at Missouri State for seven seasons and posted a career record of 106-121 with a 51-75 mark in Missouri Valley Conference games. His teams made the postseason just once during that stretch, appearing in the 2014 CIT and ending the year with a 20-13 record.
Purdue is coming off an 18-10 season in 2020-21, finishing fourth in the B1G standings and earning a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers were eliminated in the first round of March Madness by North Texas.
