Eddie George is the new head football coach at Tennessee State. The school made the news official on Tuesday morning.

Stadium’s Brett McMurphy was the first to report the news over the weekend. This will be George’s first job as a coach at any level. Tennessee State sent out a statement on Twitter regarding the hire.

George was a star running back at Ohio State and with the Tennessee Titans in the NFL. During his time in Columbus, George rushed for 3,768 yards and 44 touchdowns while also totaling 534 receiving yards and catching 1 touchdown pass.

George was the winner of the Heisman Trophy following the 1995 season, totaling 1,927 rushing yards, 417 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns while the Buckeyes finished the season with an 11-2 record.

Following the 1995 season, George was selected with the No. 14 overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft. He spent almost his entire career with the Tennessee Titans (previously the Houston Oilers), suiting up for the franchise from 1996-2003. George then spent one season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2004.

As an NFL running back, George was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and rushed for 10,441 yards and 68 touchdowns while also hauling in 268 catches for 2,227 yards and 10 more scores.
