The one-time transfer rule may soon be accepted by the NCAA.

Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic is reporting that the NCAA is expected to approve a one-time transfer rule sometime this week. The new policy would allow all student-athletes to have immediate eligibility after transferring for the first time, regardless of sport. Under current rules, student-athletes in specific sports must sit out one year unless they are granted an eligibility waiver from the organization.

Over the years, the NCAA has been criticized for its lack of transparency in granted immediately eligibility waivers for student-athletes. This new policy would make the process easier for players.

A one-time transfer rule has been discussed at length over the past few years but was put on the backburner recently because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But with the academic year winding down, it seems the NCAA is prepared to make a decision.

The creation of the transfer portal has already made the process more player-friendly for student-athletes. Approving this one-time rule would also simplify the process.
