Minnesota basketball earns major transfer commitment from Division II All-American

Minnesota basketball picked up a huge addition on Thursday.

The Golden Gophers earned a commitment from Northern State transfer Parker Fox.

Here’s his announcement:

Fox was a Division II All-American this past season. He averaged 22.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He also dished out 2.5 assists per contest and is a prolific shot blocker at 3.2 blocks per game.

Listed at 6-foot-8, Fox is likely to play as a center for Minnesota given his ability to protect the rim. Playing the center position will also help mitigate his biggest weakness, which is shooting. He is a career 29.3 percent shooter from 3-point range and 54.5 percent from the free throw line.

Fox chose Minnesota over more than 100 schools who reached out during his transfer process, according to David Brown. He’s originally from Mahtomedi, Minnesota, and said the chance to go back home had a major impact.

Fox is Minnesota’s fifth player to transfer into the program this offseason. The Gophers lost a lot of talent off of last year’s squad, and new coach Ben Johnson has been aggressive in the portal to try to replace it.

Fox joins Sean Sutherlin, Eylijah Stephens, Luke Loewe and Jamison Battle as transfers committed to Minnesota.
