Report: Indiana offered Brad Stevens a ridiculous contract to coach basketball team
Indiana can’t say it didn’t go all out in attempting to bring Brad Stevens to Bloomington.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Indiana was prepared to offer Stevens a 7-year, $70 million contract to leave the Boston Celtics and coach the Hoosiers. But even the lucrative deal wasn’t entertained by Stevens.
“Leaving the Boston Celtics for a college job, it just doesn’t make sense,” Wojnarowski said on ESPN. “He’s in that high $6- , low $7 million a year range anyway.”

Stevens was priority target No. 1 for Indiana after the program fired Archie Miller after four seasons. Many thought Stevens might consider a return to his home state and the college game after spending eight seasons in Boston. He reiterated multiple times throughout the coaching search he had no interest in the job.
After Stevens turned down the offer, Indiana turned to former Hoosiers player and Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson. He signed a 6-year deal around $3 million per year. This will be Woodson’s first coaching job at the college level.
