The Isabella County (Michigan) Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on Central Michigan quarterback John Keller, who was left in critical condition following an apartment shooting in Mount Pleasant on Saturday.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, Keller is recovering and is in stable condition. He was one of two victims in the incident and both are currently recovering.

“The two men that were injured in the shooting off campus yesterday are recovering,” the statement said. “ICSO is working many leads on this case today.”

Per Central Michigan Life, Keller was shot in the chest at the Deerfield Village Apartments. Mount Pleasant police responded to the sound of gunshots at the off-campus apartments early Saturday morning.

Police say that the shooting stemmed from an altercation that occurred at a party. One individual left the party and grabbed a gun from his car, then fired shots upon returning.

Keller initially committed to Cincinnati out of high school but transferred out following his lone season with the Bearcats. After spending one season at the junior college level, the quarterback then transferred to Central Michigan in January 2020.
