Justin Fields did not have to wait long to hear his name called Thursday evening with the Chicago Bears trading up to grab the Ohio State star at No. 11 overall.

After a back-and-forth and hotly rumored pre-draft cycle, it did not take long for the drama of the draft to unfold. After Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson went 1-2, the San Francisco 49ers made their move at No. 3 to land Trey Lance out of North Dakota State.

Those three quarterbacks started the draft before a brief reprieve from the position. Though Adam Schefter reported Friday morning that Carolina was considering Fields at No. 8, he would become the fourth QB off the board when the Bears traded up to 11 for the selection.

In the end, a drastic slide on draft night as some predicted for Fields did not materialize. Though he wound up just outside the top 10, Fields lands with a franchise that remains desperate for a playmaker under center after Mitch Trubisky did not work out.

On Friday, Fields arrived in Chicago to meet the team with the Bears putting out some first-look photos and a brief statement from his arrival. He definitely made an entrance with an impressive suit but ended his comments on a simple but strong statement.

“I’m just ready to get to work, Bear down,” said Fields.

Now, it will be interesting to see if the Bears get some help for Fields on the offensive side of the ball when the draft resumes Friday evening.
