Nebraska’s decision to make a late change to the 2021 football schedule will come with a price tag, but one that’s manageable considering the current going rate to schedule and cancel games.

According to Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska will shell out $500,000 to play Fordham on Saturday, Sept. 4, a game that was added on Monday. That contest has been scheduled to be played at Memorial Stadium and will serve as the home opener for the Huskers.

The first game of the season for Nebraska will be a week earlier on Aug. 28, when it travels to Champaign to play Illinois in Week 0.

Previously, Nebraska had an off week on Sept. 4 and was scheduled to play Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, Nov. 13. That game has been canceled and, as a result, the Huskers will fork over $600,000 to the program. However, McKewon says the school is working to reschedule that game with SE Louisiana for a later date.

The Nov. 13 date will now serve as the Huskers’ off week.

In total, Nebraska will be paying Fordham and SE Louisiana a total of $1.1 million — which is the same amount some schools will pay a single opponent for a home game.
