Northwestern lands pledge from former Big 12 DE

Northwestern is adding some depth to its defensive line.

On Thursday, the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from former West Virginia defensive end Jeffery Pooler Jr. He announced his pledge via Twitter after entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

“After talking with Coach Long, Coach O and Coach Fitzgerald, I’ve decided to finish off my career as a Northwestern Wildcat,” Pooler wrote on Twitter. “Let’s get to work!”

Pooler was a star at West Virginia the last two seasons along the defensive line. He piled up 11 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and 46 total stops during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Pooler was also credited with 4 pass break-ups and a forced fumble.

With the Mountaineers, Pooler played in 37 career games. Following the 2020 campaign, he was an All-Big 12 honorable mention.

Northwestern is coming off a 7-2 campaign in 2020, winning the B1G West for the second time in three years and defeating Auburn in the Citrus Bowl.
