Scott Frost says WR room the ‘best it’s been,’ talks backup QB situation as Huskers close spring
The 2021 season is a critical one for Nebraska head coach Scott Frost. In three seasons, he has yet to post a winning record or make an appearance in a bowl game.
Last Saturday, Nebraska closed out spring ball with the annual Red and White Game at Memorial Stadium, welcoming over 30,000 fans to the venue for the scrimmage. In that spring game, there were some things to like about next year’s team.
Offensive line play was strong and the running back room looks deep. Adrian Martinez looked quick at the quarterback position an there are some guys in the receiver room who could make a big impact.
Defensively, the Huskers a majority of their starters from last season, including defensive lineman Ben Stille, linebacker JoJo Domann and defensive back Cam Taylor-Britt. Having the best player back on all three levels is important.
Thursday night, Frost joined Sports Nightly to talk about what he’s seen from his squad through spring practices. He talked about the depth and talent of the wide receiver position, the play along the offensive and defensive lines, team speed and the backup quarterback situation.
Here’s what Frost had to say Thursday night:
Frost on radio: “We’re faster than we’ve ever been.”

Frost said Haarberg made a few throws during the spring that made "everybody turn and look at each other."

Frost on deciding not to pursue a transfer QB: "We really feel good about the fact that by the time we get to the (end of August) we’ll have one or more of those guys ready to go in if need be."

Frost said senior ILB Will Honas missed most of spring with a nagging injury and came back at the very end just to go through some drill work and injured his knee on the last day before the spring game.
Just brutal, especially for a guy already in his sixth year of college.
