Report: Jacksonville Jaguars expected to sign Tim Tebow as tight end

Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow will reportedly be teaming up again, this time in Jacksonville.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars are planning to sign Tebow to a one-year contract as a tight end. Rapoport noted that nothing is official at this time, but a deal is expected to be reached within the next week.

Tebow first entered the NFL as a quarterback, the position he played at Florida. But after a short career in the professional ranks, he seems open to trying something new in an effort to get back on the field.

Despite a strong college career at Florida playing under Meyer, Tebow never found much success in the NFL. He was a first-round selection by the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft and spent two seasons with the franchise. Tebow then had a one-year stop with the New York Jets.

In 2013 and 2015, Tebow was a member of the offseason practice squad with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, but hasn’t been on the game field in nearly a decade. When his NFL career ended, Tebow gave professional baseball a swing, reaching the Triple A level at one point.

At Florida, Tebow was a member of two national championship teams and was the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner.
