The National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame have announced the semifinalists for the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy. The list of 179 names was released on Wednesday morning.

The list of semifinalists includes 11 players from the B1G. The William V. Campbell Trophy is presented to the individual who is the “absolute best football scholar-athlete in the country.”

Candidates are nominated by their schools, with each getting only one representative. Candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility. They must also have a 3.2 GPA, have outstanding football ability and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.

The list of semifinalists will be trimmed down to 12-14 finalists on Oct. 31. A winner will be announced on Dec. 4.
