2 B1G programs have abysmal stat among Power 5 schools in 2022
It’s early on in the season, but these schools need to do a better job with support from their fanbases. Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports ranked the bottom five Power 5 teams in terms of attendance by percentage of capacity on Friday.
Northwestern and Maryland finished second and fourth on Dodd’s list. The Wildcats have had 50,68 % capacity so far, while Maryland has had just 56.87% capacity. For reference, Ryan Field holds 47,130 and Maryland Stadium holds 54,000 at max capacity.
This was seen in full force in Maryland’s season opener against Buffalo. Maryland fans were barely seen at the game, and a picture was posted on social media to show how few people were in the stands.
The weird thing is that the Terps are 3-0 so far. Northwestern on the other hand, is trending downwards. The Wildcats are coming off of back-to-back losses against Duke and FCS team Southern Illinois.
Here’s how the rest of the list shaped up:
- UCLA- 37.3%
- Northwestern- 50.68%
- Vanderbilt- 55.21%
- Maryland- 56.87%
- Cal- 58.56%
Five lowest Power 5s in attendance by percentage of capacity.
1. UCLA, 37.3%
2. Northwestern, 50.68
3. Vandy, 55.21
4. Maryland, 56.87
5. Cal, 58.56
