2 former Big Ten stars named among 10 best NFL rookies for 2021
Offensive tackle Rashawn Slater and linebacker Micah Parsons had great starts to their NFL careers with Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys.
So much so, that they both made ESPN’s list of the 10 best rookies from the 2021 season. Here’s where the 2 rookies landed on that list per Jeff Legwold of ESPN:
Micah Parsons was ranked as the best rookie on that list after exploding out of the gate in his rookie year. The former Penn State linebacker had 64 total tackles, 13 sacks (6th-best in the NFL), and 3 forced fumbles this season.

Rashawn Slater came in at No. 3 on the list after the year he had in L.A. Slater played at Northwestern. He had just 4 sacks allowed and 4 penalties called on him in his 1st NFL season. He also had an overall PFF ranking of 83.7 on the year.
There were also 2 honorable mentions not included on the list from the B1G as well. Former Illinois CB Nate Hobbs and former Northwestern CB Greg Newsome II also had great seasons.
Hobbs was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders, and played slot corner for the majority of the season. He finished the year with 1 interception and 74 total tackles.
Newsome missed some time with injury struggles in his 1st season with the Cleveland Browns. However, he played in 12 games this season and finished with 37 total tackles.
It looks like these rookies from the B1G have definitely made an impact in the NFL.
