Conference realignment has been the talk of 2021.

The snowball started rolling down the hill as Oklahoma and Texas announced that they were leaving for the SEC.

The B1G, ACC and Pac-12 decided to create an alliance but nobody really knows what the conferences intend on doing with it. The Big 12 had to scramble and poach from the AAC to save their conference. They grabbed BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF.

The AAC is now looking at poaching from the Mountain West with Air Force and Colorado State.

Two teams potentially rumored to leave the Mountain West, Boise State and San Diego State, have ultimately decided to stay put in the Mountain West.

That’s per Pete Thamel of Yahoo!, who says the schools informed the Mountain West of that decision on Thursday.

The AAC was potentially pushing to grab San Diego State and Boise State to replace the three members they are losing in a few years.

Conference realignment round 2 will likely be in place by 2023. For now, it’s a game of musical chairs, and each conference or school hopes they won’t be the last one standing.
